To Alice Springs

Big day yesterday, nice home cooked tea at Renner Springs, I had the rissoles, delicious, Pam had the lamb chops, there is a theory they may have been a bit of 15 year old goat roadkill collected this afternoon, she did enjoy the veges though!!

A short drive of 600 kilometres today and a surprising amount of things to see on the way.  We are following the train line south and it's always a thrill to actually see the line as we drive along.  We have been surprised at how much vegetation is about, it's changing along the way but it still looks pretty thick and healthy.

Made it to the 'Threeways' and decided to skip Qld and keep going south through Tennant Creek (there really is a creek there called Tennant Creek).  Called in to Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles), fascinating sight amongst all the spinifex in a gully between a couple of ridges, goes on for about a kilometre, we did a short walk then called in to the camp ground for a toilet break and a few more photos.

Found a memorial to Dr John Flynn along the way, his ashes are under the memorial.  Originally one of the rocks from Karlu Karlu was placed at the memorial but was returned to it's original spot and the current memorial built.

Then past Aileron where some really thought provoking statues made from steel are at the sight.  An Aboriginal female and child are near the roadhouse and an Aboriginal male with a spear is standing looking over all the travellers.  Certainly caught our eye.

Finally Alice Springs about 3pm, an easy drive, great roads with plenty of roadhouses and stops on the way.

Went up to the Anzac memorial overlooking the town, very good with (according to the travel guide) a 365 degree view of the town.

Decided to go to the Telegraph Station Historical centre next to the Todd River even though it was about to close we still had a nice walk up to the Trig Hill Lookout.  Easy walk with nice views of the Todd River and the old Telegraph Station.

Time for tea at the Alice Springs Brewing Co., beer and pizza for tea then in to bed to prepare for an action packed day in Alice Springs tomorrow.

  2. Again, great pics guys! Looks like you're having the best weather and nothing's stopping you from any of your sight seeing. Enjoy, enjoy. John and I spent 3 months in Alice many moons ago. Loved it, but we're sure it's changed a lot since then. Love D & J xx
